DURHAM, Butte County — October 28, 2026. Durham Unified School District has shared an initial summary of its performance in the 2026 California School Dashboard, the state’s accountability system for public schools. In the superintendent’s weekly community update, the district says its color-coded performance results are Blue or Green in all but one indicator.
What the state’s colors measure
California’s dashboard uses five color categories — Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange and Red — to describe performance and change over time for eligible measures. The system includes chronic absenteeism, suspension rates, progress for English learners, graduation and college or career readiness, plus English language arts, mathematics and science measures.
Colors cannot be treated as a single school grade, an individual child’s achievement level or proof that every student has the same experience. Measures vary in eligibility and population. Families should read the individual indicator results, whether an indicator is based on a small group, and any changes from prior years.
What Durham Unified has said
Superintendent John Bohannon’s published update describes district results as encouraging, with one indicator outside the Blue/Green bands, and credits the effort of educators, families and students. The summary reviewed for this article does not identify the exception by name. California58 therefore does not guess which academic, attendance or discipline measure needs improvement.
How families can check the underlying results
The official 2026 California School Dashboard report for Durham Unified lets residents examine each measure and available student-group details. For questions about school-level plans and resources, families can contact the district at (530) 895-4675.
Separate from the dashboard, Durham Unified’s official board schedule lists its next regular meeting for Thursday, November 12, 2026, an exception to the normal third-Wednesday schedule. The current board webpage may still display details from the October 21 meeting, so residents should use the latest posted agenda to verify the November start time and remote access arrangements.
Why school performance deserves local reporting
The dashboard is one tool for families evaluating schools, educators identifying where support is needed and residents following school governance. A mostly Blue/Green result is newsworthy, but does not eliminate questions about individual categories, student groups, classroom experience or budget decisions. The full public report should inform those discussions.
